For as long as I can remember I have had a strong relationship with cards. I have made them, purchased them, celebrated with them, mourned with them, and well, so many things with them! I am certain you understand. I have sent them to loved ones, sent them to strangers, sent them on behalf of someone as a request, I have SENT them… many of them. (this is starting to feel like a Dr. Suess book!)
The point is, cards are a thing. (maybe that is why I started a greeting card company?!) Personally- receiving a card, (especially for no particular reason) is such a joy to me. People are supposed to think of you on your birthday. Our culture has perpetuated the responsibility upon us to send a card for the winter holidays. But to receive a card JUST BECAUSE feels like love arrived in my mailbox.
Cards are much more to me than a piece of card stock, they have become a mission. A typical week I mail between ten and fifteen cards. Usually I follow my heart more than my calendar. It seems to work out. I am blessed to receive comments such as, “This was just what I needed!”, “Thank you for thinking of me”, “Your timing was perfect!”. It is interesting to me how the universe works. It feels so good to send love and have it welcomed.
So! I invite you to do the same. The elder project is a greeting card project that happens multiple times a year. It is simple to do, but the impact is incredible. Why do I choose to invite you to do this? It’s pretty simple. I feel that our elderly can be a lost population. It feels like they are not seen or appreciated. This is my way of trying to change that just a bit.
The next deadline is May 1. I hope you will join me in sharing the love.
