The heavy kind. The kind that makes the world feel a little smaller and a little darker than it already can.

And tomorrow, I am mailing light into it anyway.

Tomorrow is April 1st, and the very first Affirmation Letters go out into the world. Original art prints. A letter. Journal prompts. An art invitation. Mailed, one by one, to real human beings who said yes to receiving something beautiful in their mailbox each month.

I have been packing envelopes tonight, and I will tell you the truth: it feels both thrilling and terrifying.

Thrilling because this is real. Terrifying for exactly the same reason.

I have always believed that art heals.

That is not a tagline I put on a website. It is the thing I have staked my entire creative life on. It started when I was a little girl making cards for my great-grandmother when she was gravely ill. I did not have words that were big enough for what I felt. But I had paper. And crayons. And the belief, even then, that if I put enough love into something and handed it to someone, it would reach them in a way that words alone could not.

That never left me.

Over the years I built Greetings4Good into a catalog of more than over 500 original designs, all made and printed right here in Rochester. I started The Thoughtfulness Project, distributing cards to nursing facilities and cancer treatment centers, because I knew that the people inside those walls needed to feel remembered. I developed affirmation decks because I believed people needed to hold something in their hands that told them the truth about who they are.

And now this. The Affirmation Letters.

You do not need me to tell you the world feels caotic and dark right now.

You already know. You feel it when you scroll through the news. You feel it in conversations that are harder than they used to be. You feel it on rainy days when the weight of everything seems to press in a little closer.

I am not naive about that darkness. I do not believe a pretty art print fixes systemic pain. I am not offering a shortcut past grief or fear or exhaustion.

What I am offering is something smaller and, I think, more honest than a believing any one thing could be a cure.

I am offering a moment.

One moment each month when you open your mailbox and something handmade and intentional is waiting for you. Something that was touched by human hands. Something that says: you are worth being thought of. You are worth beautiful things. You are not alone in wanting to feel better than you do right now.

I think about the people who will receive these letters.

Someone going through something they haven’t told anyone about yet. Someone who has been running on empty for so long they’ve forgotten what full feels like. Someone who just needs one small reminder that light is still possible, that growth is still happening, even when they cannot see it.

I think about the way I felt as a child pressing a handmade card into my great-grandmother’s hands. I think about how she looked at it. That look. It has made an indulable impression on me. I hope I never forget it.

That is what I am chasing. Still. After all of it.

This is not a product launch.

Yes, there is a subscription. Yes, there is a website. Yes, there are practical details and postage costs and envelopes involved.

But underneath all of that is a person who genuinely believes that one piece of art, one personal letter, one journal prompt (our maybe four) that asks the right question at the right moment… can change the direction of someone’s day. And sometimes, the direction of someone’s day is everything.

I am choosing to share light because I do not know what else to do with what I have been given. I have been given a love of beauty, a compulsion to create, and a deep belief that people need to feel seen and held and reminded of their own worth.

So I make things. And I mail them. And tomorrow, I will walk into the post office and hand over a stack of envelopes and trust that they will find the people who need them.

Even in the rain.

Especially in the rain.

Thanks for listening- Sending you so much love,

Susan

The Affirmation Letters subscription is open now at Greetings4Good.org.
